In 1890 Giuseppe Ferrando founded in Ivrea the Ferrando winery, with the precise intent to spread the Piedmontese wines in the nearby Val d'Aosta. The activity is lucky and with son Luigi develops quickly; The first venue in Ivrea is located in the ancient convent of San Bernardino, which also houses the home of an illustrious eporedodian, Camillo Olivetti, founder of the homonymous factory for writing machines. In 1957 the decisive turning point took place when Giuseppe, the founder's granddaughter, acquired a small vineyard in the municipality of Carema and decides to personally produce this unique wine, which is obtained from a particular type of nebbiolo grown only on the steep slopes of the moraine hills around the village of Carema, which go up to 700 meters. The quantities produced of this rare territorial pearl are very small, due to the impervious cultivation of the vineyards clinging to the rock. Another flagship of the Ferrando cellar is the production of Caluso's erbaluce, a white wine with absolutely unique characteristics. For 5 generations, the Ferrando family is dedicated to the production and sale of wines with great passion and with great enthusiasm: today the management of the cellar has passed into the hands of Roberto, who has been able to support the traditional technology to tradition.
